Ammersoyen Castle
A genuine medieval castle
Ammersoyen Castle is one of the best-preserved medieval moated fortresses in the country. When visiting the castle, built in the 1300s, you will experience the atmosphere of the Middle Ages.
You are welcome to either explore the castle by yourself, or take a guided tour. You will visit the chambers of the keep, the knights’ hall and the women’s quarters. After taking the stairs inside the vast fortified walls, you reach the museum attic where archaeological finds from the moat illustrate the castle’s history.
Children will have an excellent time exploring: in the museum attic all sorts of activities are organised for them and in the weapon room they can try on items of body armour. The castle has a gift shop, and in restaurant “Het Koetshuis” you can enjoy a drink and a bite to eat. The restaurant also has a terrace. Ammersoyen Castle organises events for visitors of all ages.
Tours start throughout the day at set times. English tours can be arranged by appointment.
For those who would like to combine a visit to the castle with a bike ride, we recommend the cycling route below.
